"Beyond the Number" Event
With the growing reliance on data across various fields, the ability to understand, analyze, and interpret numbers has become essential for achieving accurate results and making informed decisions. Accordingly, the Student Activities Club at the Applied College in Al-Majardah—in collaboration with the Female Student Affairs branch of the Deanship of Student Affairs—organized an event titled "Beyond the Number" on Sunday, 9/4/1448 AH (September 20, 2026). Held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Smart Hall, this specialized, competitive event was designed for female students majoring in Statistical Analysis and Data Management.
Thirty-five students participated in the event, engaging in a hands-on, competitive experience aimed at enhancing their skills in reading, analyzing, and interpreting data; identifying misleading information; drawing correct conclusions; and making data-driven decisions.
Event Objectives
Enhance skills in accurately reading and interpreting data.
Develop students' critical and analytical thinking.
Train students to detect misleading data presentations.
Strengthen the ability to compare, draw conclusions, and make decisions based on data.
Translate specialized concepts into practical scenarios and challenges.
Encourage teamwork and positive competition among students.
Link the Statistical Analysis and Data Management specialization to practical applications.
Event Implementation Mechanism
The event utilized a format featuring group competitions and interactive stations. Students were divided into competitive teams and undertook a series of challenges designed to assess various data-handling skills. The challenges were distributed across four main stations:
First: The "Number" Station
Focused on reading numbers, percentages, and indicators, and extracting accurate information from them.
Second: The "Graph" Station
Centered on reading graphs, comparing them with displayed values, and identifying the correct data representation.
Third: The "Fact" Station
Addressed scenarios requiring the verification of interpretations, the detection of misleading statements or conclusions, and the ability to distinguish between facts and inaccurate interpretations.
Fourth: The "Decision" Station
Required students to move beyond data analysis to using data for comparisons and selecting the most appropriate decision based on available indicators.
Teams used a "Data Passport" to track their progress and record scores at each station, which helped organize the competition and clearly calculate results.
The Competitive Aspect
The event offered a competitive experience that went beyond simple, direct answers; it required students to read and analyze data, identify patterns and indicators, verify information accuracy, draw conclusions, and make decisions.
The station-based format diversified the challenges and allowed students to apply various skills within a single, integrated experience, while also fostering teamwork, communication, and healthy competition.
Furthermore, the event helped enhance skills in data reading, graph analysis, identifying misleading information, drawing conclusions, and decision-making, alongside developing teamwork, communication, and healthy competitive spirit. The event showcased a specialized activity that innovatively utilizes data within a student-focused context, linking academic concepts to practical applications relevant to the students' field of study.
It concluded with an awards ceremony honoring the top three teams for their outstanding performance in the challenges, alongside an expression of gratitude to all participants for their attendance and engagement.
The "Beyond the Number" event underscored the fact that working with data goes beyond merely reading figures; it requires understanding, analyzing, and interpreting them to derive accurate information and make informed decisions.
The event successfully combined specialized knowledge, practical application, and healthy competition.
