The Engineering and Technical Specializations Unit originated alongside the **Department of Computer Science** at the time the College of Science and Arts in Al-Majardah—a relatively new educational institution within King Khalid University—was established. The university opened its doors to female students in the first semester of the **1433–1434 AH** academic year; initially, the college comprised three academic departments, one of which was the Department of Computer Science.
As the college evolved and its academic programs expanded, its organizational and academic structure underwent a transformation from the **College of Science and Arts** to an **Applied College** in **1444 AH**. This shift necessitated a reorganization of specializations and programs to align with the college's new identity and the demands of the labor market. Consequently, the Department of Computer Science transitioned into the **Engineering and Technical Specializations Unit**, tasked with overseeing technical and engineering disciplines and programs, while supporting the college's educational mission and academic development.
The Unit continues to play a pivotal role in developing technical and engineering specializations, enhancing the quality of education, and keeping pace with rapid advancements in technology and engineering. These efforts align with the university’s strategic direction and the Applied College’s objectives, contributing to the preparation of qualified professionals capable of meeting labor market needs and actively participating in national development.
