Bariq Governorate hosted the "Shiyam Asir" Championship, competing for the Cup of His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Talal—Governor of the Asir Region. The event was overseen by King Khalid University (represented by the Applied College in Al-Majardah) and executed by the Jud Al-Nawasi Club. The race was honored by the presence of Prince Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Saud. The championship featured three races: the premier Prince’s Cup race (with a prize purse of 45,000 Riyals and 11 competing horses); the Ajawid Bariq Governorate Cup race (with prizes totaling 15,000 Riyals and 11 competing horses); and the concluding Bariq Municipality Cup race (with prizes totaling 12,000 Riyals and 9 competing horses).
In the Prince Turki Cup race, the horse "Aswan"—owned by Aisha Abdullah Al-Barqi and ridden by jockey Odai Al-Halafi—took first place. The horse "Askoud Al-Hurr"—owned by Abdullah Al-Barqi and ridden by jockey Jamil Al-Adli—finished second, while "Abiyat Al-Shuhaib"—owned by Hazza Al-Sullami and ridden by jockey Ahmed Al-Awfi—came in third. In the Ajawid Bariq Governorate Cup race, the horse "Zizoum"—owned and ridden by Zain Al-Barqi—took the lead. The horse "Ra'ad"—owned by Ahmed Yahya Al-Barqi and ridden by jockey Ahmed Al-Qawzi—finished second, while "Waqqad"—owned by Yahya Al-Barqi and ridden by jockey Mohammed Al-Nashiri—secured third place. In the Bareq Municipality Cup race, the horse "Aseel"—owned by Amer Madini Al-Bareqi and ridden by jockey Odai Al-Halafi—secured first place. The horse "Hathaf"—owned by Madini Amer Al-Bareqi and ridden by jockey Jamil Al-Adli—took second place, while the horse "Al-Munjard"—owned by Musa Mohammed Al-Salloumi and ridden by jockey Ahmed Al-Awfi—finished third.
By overseeing this championship, the Applied College in Al-Majardah contributes to strengthening its role in the community, aiming to encourage young people to engage in sports and foster a competitive spirit among them. This initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which seeks to promote a sports culture and develop sporting events across all regions.
